You walk out of the doctor’s office after just getting the news that the tests came back positive. Suddenly, your whole world, as you know it, has turned upside down, and nothing is the same. Rare Disease? Me: There’s no way this is happening, because I was once the person who prayed for people with medical problems, and now I am in the same boat?

Today is Myotonic Dystrophy Awareness day… but wait, you don’t know what it is? Let’s fix that! Instead of some long-winded post with a bunch of facts and medical terms that no one actually understands, I’m going to tell you what it’s actually like living with a rare and chronic disease in the shortest but most informative way possible.

Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone goes to therapy? Your sister goes to therapy, your aunt goes to therapy, your friend goes to therapy, your coworker goes to therapy, every influencer ever goes to therapy. So… how did we go from therapy being a taboo word to the fact that therapy could be a toxic trend?

It feels like that sometimes, doesn’t it? Like anxiety is the giant name tag you are wear around to those get to know each other functions. Having a mental illness such as anxiety can cause us to give in to the spiraling thoughts, physical symptoms, and let anxiety control us instead of us controlling it.

I’ve met a lot of famous people. From running a country music entertainment page to meeting artists at meet-and-greets. I feel lucky to have been blessed to be able to talk to so many wonderful people. A lot of the time, I would have very strict rules and timed interactions with celebrities. As an interviewer, you can’t talk about yourself, and usually, you have management teams listening in on calls anyway.
